The meeting revealed that China Telecom Shanghai would continue the construction of Metro Optical Network (MONET) to 2make MONET cover 6.5 million urban users and build 20 smart

Notable is the new campaign of promoting broadband China Telecom Shanghai tailors for three kinds of users: the network speed for 100 thousand old and new corporate users of dedicated Internet access and PSTN allowing them to enjoy a 30% discount of the average expense, the price discou
6、nt of broadband for 10 thousand special enterprises and industrial parks providing information services, making them have a 20% discount in addition to the aforementioned 30% discount, and the favorable MONET packages and free network speed increase for special customers ?C 550 thousand people in to
7、tal ?C including the disabled persons, old people, students, and owners of indemnificatory houses and lowrent houses. In addition, the training of “Smarter City” will be continued and will benefit 400 thousand citizens. China Telecom Shanghai launched the campaign of “connecting fiber optic to the h

By the end of last year, the MONET in Shanghai had covered 4.5 million users and recruited 1.3 million users, making Shanghai the “No. 1 City of MONET” in China. Presently, the average bandwidth of household Internet acces
10、s in Shanghai reaches 8Mb and the average bandwidth of MONET users is 16Mb. The 10Mb and 20Mb packages have become quite common for household users. Compared with the other seven major cities of China (Beijing, Tianjin, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou and Guangzhou), the prices for 10Mb and 20M
11、b broadband in Shanghai are lower. In the construction of “Wireless City”, China Telecom Shanghai has already built more than 7,300 WiFi hotspots and spread the 3G network to every corner of the city. The quality of network is considered best among all operators in Shanghai by third-party reviewing
12、agency. All users can get connected to Internet through WiFi in airports, railway stations, long-distance bus stations, passenger ports and stadiums without affording any charges. In addition, 51 key industrial parks in Shanghai are equipped with MONET and WiFi, which greatly improves the business e

Full-fledged MONET in 2012 with 16Mb Bandwidth 4According to the “Three-Year Plan”, China Telecom Shanghai will take the lead in information infrastructure, smart applications, and new information technologies. It will be among the first to build the world- leading informa
14、tion infrastructure network, to promote the smart applications as a participator in smart applications in Shanghai and to use the new generation of information and communication technologies massively for playing a main role in promoting the economic transformation and information industrys developm

The development of cloud computing, information services, next-generation network and other three items will be underscored by China Telecom, which could bring a 100-billion-yuan increase to the relevant industries. Apart from the aforementioned favorable prices of broadband, China
16、Telecom Shanghai would accelerate the construction of MONET and Wireless City for “increasing network speed”. In 2012, additional 2 million users will be able to get connected to MONET and 1 million new users will be recruited. This means that the MONET will cover 6.5 million users and there will be
17、 2.3 million MONET users in Shanghai in 2012. The average bandwidth will reach 16Mb. The continuous construction of Wireless City will bring about Internet environment featured 5with universal convergence, fast access and convenient use. 18、he largest access speed could reach 54Mb. Nearly all the key public areas in Shanghai will be covered with WiFi hotspots. The “Smart Applications” will see the participation of China Telecom Shanghai, which lays its emphasis on Smart Communities, Smart Traffic, Improved Information Technologies for
19、SMEs and Education. Among them, 20 smart communities will be built in Shanghai within 2012. These communities will be featured with MONET access, household security, community-based ecommerce and smart electric appliance control. These excellent services aim to reassure the customers in installing broadband, allow them to enjoy using the broadband, relieve them from the worries about repairing and make sure that they have no problems in extending the contracts.
