In this period, the change was dramatically great. The first alteration of the industrial revolution was from agricultural society

2、to industrial society. The basic method of living was changed from farming to industrial production. As a result, a great many of people altered their status from farmer to worker. The second alteration of the industrial revolution was that lots of countries turned to cities or more people from coun

3、tries inflow to cities. The related reason is that there are more opportunities of jobs in cities. The third alteration of the industrial revolution was that, the inner world of many people distorted because of the large change of this period. Many people in the period couldnt accept the situation o

4、f new society. According to the concept of materialism. Materialism is defined in Wikipedia as “in philosophym the theory of materialism holds that the only thing that exists is matter; that all things are composed of materialism and all phenomena (including consciousness) are the result of material

5、 interactions, In other words, matter is the only substance.”(2012) The period of industrial revolution brought the benefits of living materials, but at the same time, it took with some bad results. Nowadays, the high speed of development of modernization brings both benefits and bad results as well

6、. So the industrial revolution is a mirror to the present situation. Research of the influences of industrial revolution provides suggestions. People should make clear their real value of life, and not to follow the life which is called destiny. And people nowadays should be confident about themselv

7、es in each environment. The novel Sons and Lovers, which is written by David Lawrence, is about the story which happens in the period of industrial revolution in England. Besides, the writer Lawrence lived in that period of time, and had lots of thoughts of the influences of industrial revolution on

8、 peoples psychology. And he himself was the outcome of the high speed of development as well. As regards to the research, it needs the related findings at home and abroad. 2 As materialists concluded 5 features of them: Materialists chase more property than others; Materialists believe that property

9、 can bring them with happiness; Materialists appraise goods with high comments; Materialists are eager to achieve and keep property, which includes goods, people and memory (such as photos and memorials which stands for their experience); Materialism is the representation of peoples sense of insecur

10、ity. Some evidence will be held in detail to support them. The author has collected a number of materials, which are mainly borrowed from the library including the relevant academic works, journals and collected papers. Based on these materials, it can be concluded that the novel is worth studying a

11、nd has its modern practical significance. Through the novel, it embod ys that sometimes civilization cant catch up with the high speed of materials development. According to the concept of materialism, people should balance the material world as well as their spiritual world. 2. 研究的主要内容、预期目标和研究方案 Th
