1、 1 / 14THE LAST LEAF 剧本初稿一:时间: November(主要时间)二:气候:cold,rainstorm三:地点: In a little district west of Washington Square四:角色:Johnsy Sue Old Behrman Doctor五:其他:旁白 控制人员第一幕:起。(布景:舞台前部偏右置折叠床一张,上附暖色床单并被,床头向观众席,尾向内,指向台左后部,床脚置椅一张,椅左一桌,桌上一镜。台中床中轴线上置一窗台,大小适度,窗向台后开放,上挂便于更换之暖色窗帘,下置一画板并笔。台左后置一白版,上附纸绘斑驳,灰暗墙面及一条枯萎,衰败

2、,腐朽之常青藤,于绘藤处开孔,取叶十二,细线系之,取纸编号于末端,穿孔而悬,设一人于白版后,配合 Johnsy 扮演者口中数字,依次剪断第 12-5 条细线,另于风雨之夜 Old Behrman 画叶之前依次掉落余下四叶。)幕起,只一束光打在旁白处,若灯光不可控则闭灯,旁白持一手电立于台左前部朗读,字幕打于大幕上。(旁白:In a little district west of Washington Square, the quaint old Greenwich Style of the buildings attracted a lot of young artists. Sue and

3、Johnsy are two of them, one from Maine, the other from California. They found their tastes in art and became good friends, then made up their joint studio at the top of a three-story brick building.But in November a cold, unseen stranger , whom the doctors called Pneumonia ,stalked about the distric

4、t. Unfortunately, 2 / 14Johnsy was among his victims, and she coughed continually. Sue was very anxious ,so she sent for a doctor. 旁白毕,灭灯下场。)(在华盛顿广场西面的一个小区里,古色古香的老格林尼治风格的建筑吸引了不少年轻的艺术家。Sue 和 Johnsy 就是其中的两个,她们两一个来自缅因州,一个来自加利福尼亚。他们发现各自在艺术上有着相同的品味,并且成为了好朋友,于是咋一幢三层砖楼的顶层,两个人创立了一个共同的画室。但是到了 11 月,一个冷酷的、肉眼看不

5、见的,医生称之为肺炎的不速之客偷偷潜入了这一地区。不幸的是,Johnsy 也成为受害者之一,她持续不断的咳嗽。Sue 对此很是忧心,所以她请了医生过来诊治。)医生:Its Pneumonia, so terrible. She only has one chance in ten. And that chance is for her to want to live. But your little lady has made up her mind that shes not going to get well. Has she anything on her mind?(这是肺炎,太可怕了

6、。她只有一成的希望,而且这个希望还得看她自己是不是想活下去。但是你这位女朋友已经断定她自己不会痊愈了。她是有什么心事吗?)Sue:She-she wanted to paint the Bay of Naples some day.(她她想有一天能去画那不勒斯湾)医生:Paint? -bosh! (表情不屑)(男人?难道一个男人就值得可是,她没有啊,大夫,没有这码子事。 )医生:Well, I will do all that science can accomplish .But whenever my patient begins to count the carriages in her funeral procession I subtract 50 percents from the curative power of medicines. If you will get her to ask one question ab

10、叶子,被子下的身体一动不动。Johnsy: Twelve. (控制人员剪落第十二片叶子)Eleven. (控制人员剪落第十一片叶子)Ten. (控制人员剪落第十片叶子)Nine. (控制人员剪落第九,第八片叶子)Eight, Seven.Sue 抬头望 Johnsy,之后不解地望向窗外。Sue:What is it, dear? (控制人员剪落第七片叶子)Johnsy:Six, Theyre falling faster now. Three days ago there were almost a hundred. It made my head ache to count them. Bu

11、t now its easy. (控制人员剪落第六片叶子)There goes another one. There are only five left now.(6 片 ,现在叶子掉落得快多了。三天前差不多还有 100 片。数得我头都疼。可现在容易了。又掉了一片。这下子只剩5 片了。 )Sue:Five what, dear? Tell me.Johnsy:Leaves. On the ivy vine. When the last one falls I must go, too. Ive known that for three days. Didnt the doctor tell

Dont be so silly.The doctor told me just this morning that your chances for getting well were ten to one!So try to take some soup now,andlet Sudie

13、 go and buy port wine for her sick child. No, I dont want any broth. That leaves just four. I want to

18、窗与床间支起画架,上设空白画板一,调色板一,油笔一。Johnsy 带被下,Old behrman 斜靠床坐在地上,面向台左前部,手拿酒瓶,撕去标签。)(旁白:Old Behrman was a painter who lived on the ground floor beneath them. He was past sixty but still a failure in art. For forty years he had been always about to paint a masterpiece, but had never yet begun it. He earned a

19、little by serving as a model to those young artists who could not pay the price of a professional. He drank gin to excess, and still talked of his coming masterpiece. For the rest he was a fierce little old man, who mocked terribly at softness in any one, and who regarded himself as guard dog to the

20、 two young artists in the studio above.)(老贝尔曼是住在两人楼下底层的一个画家。他已年过六旬,但在艺术上却没有什么成就。40 年来他一直想创作一幅传世之作,却始终没能动手。他给那些请不起职业模特的青年画家当模特挣点小钱。他没节制地喝酒,谈论着他那即将问世的不朽之作。要说其他方面,他是个好斗的小老头,要是谁表现出一点软弱,他便大肆嘲笑,并把自己看成是楼上画室里两位年轻艺术家的看护人。 )8 / 14幕启,弱灯。Sue 上台,作欲敲门状,发现门未关好,即走进来。Sue:Mr Behrman, would you please pose as model fo

21、r me? Its an old miner this time.(贝尔曼先生,你愿意当我的模特吗?这次是一个老矿工。)Behrman: Oh, its you. Thats nothing difficult, Im just the suitable model. 23、me into that head of hers?(什么?! 世界上竟然有这么愚蠢的人,因为树叶从藤上掉落就要去死?我听都没听说过这等事。你怎么让这种傻念头钻到她那个怪脑袋里?)9 / 14(边说边走到窗边,看着窗外藤叶,控制人员陆续剪落第四,第三,第二片叶子)Sue 与 Behrman 对坐,Behrman 着蓝色矿工衣坐凳子上,Sue 坐在床上开始画像,控制人员剪落最后一片叶子。幕闭。第三幕:转。幕启。窗内包括舞台前部弱光,墙部打强光,渐入风雨之音效。Behrman 着雨衣执调色板与画笔,提灯上,在墙上常青藤上画一片藤叶,茎深绿,叶枯黄。风雨声加大,Behrman 画毕,连声咳嗽,回到家

24、终于坚持不住倒下。 (旁白:The next morning, Sue awoke from an hours sleep.She found Johnsy with dull, wide-open eyes staring at the drawn green shade.) (第二天早上,只睡了一个小时的苏醒来看到约翰西睁大着无神的双眼,凝望着拉下的绿色窗帘。)Johnsy:Pull it up! I want to see!(把窗帘拉起来!我要看!)(Wearily Sue obeyed)Sue 作惊醒状,疲惫地拉开窗帘。Johnsy 发现最后一片藤叶,很吃惊。Johnsy:It is

25、the last one, I thought it would surely fall during the night. I heard the wind. It will fall today, and I shall die at the same time.10 / 14(这是最后一片叶子,我以为夜里它肯定会掉落的。我晚上听到大风呼啸。今天它会掉落的,叶子掉的时候,也是我死的时候。 ) Sue 走到床头,低首靠近枕头。Sue:Dear, dear! Think of me, if you wont think of yourself. What would I do? (情绪激动)(

26、亲爱的,想想我,如果你 不 肯 为 自 己 着 想 , 我 可 怎 么 办 呢 ?)( 旁白:Johnsy did not answer. )幕闭。第四幕:合。(布景:与上一幕大体相同,拉上窗帘,桌上加一锅一勺两碗,以及一面小镜子。)幕启。强光打墙上,余处不给光,风雨声渐入。(旁白:The day wore away, and even through the twilight they could see the lone ivy leaf clinging to its stem against the wall. When it was light enough , Johnsy, the merciless ,commanded that the shade be raised.)(白天慢慢过去了,即便在暮色黄昏之中,他们仍能看到那片孤零零的常青藤叶子,背靠砖墙,紧紧抱住梗茎。等
