As far as Im concerned, I prefer to interpret it as a story in which a loyal man persevered in his love. In the following text I will argue for my point from three a

3、in 1922 and considered Fitzgeralds finest novel, The Great Gatsby is an ideal exemplar of the Great American Novel and a top ranking 20th century literature. Whenever we mentioned this novel, people will say: “oh! Yeah, Gatsby, I know, the American Dream.” Anyway, I insist on that Gatsby imagined bu

My arguments are as follows:To begin with, it is said that Gatsbys real dream is that of achieving a new statues and a new essence, of rising to a loftier place in the mysterious hierarchy of human worth. There is no deny that Gatsby was an billionaire, he was rich enough to ban
5、quet as many guests as he like. If he just want to achieve a new statues, he could have made efforts to get acquaintances to those famous people with his financial resources in many ways, or, use his money to buy a title, as noveau riche always do. As a matter of fact, he seldom appeared at those pa
6、rties, he left himself alone and hoped that one day Daisy would come to his party. We are apt to misunderstand him of fascinating with the wealth. On the contrary, he was fully aware of the corruptive nature of the society and the vanity fair. Thats why he kept himself away from the noisy and confus

Gatsby do believed in the green light, as the last chapter of this novel reads, I persist his belief was out of his innocent and illusive beautiful love.Secondly, as we all know, daisy is a kind of flower common in North American with yellow pistil and white petal, which symbolized that D
8、aisy was innocent and noble outside but hypocritical and mammonish inside. As we can read it in chapter seven, Gatsby said: “I want to speak to Daisy alone.” “Even alone I cant say I never loved him,” she admitted in a painful voice, “it wont be true.” Its obviously that she covet Toms money and soc
9、ial statue. Besides, daisy was linked to white, which can be perceived as colorless, weak and hollowness. Nevertheless, in terms of Gatsby, white symbolize innocence and noble. He was crazy about Daisy merely because she was not anyone else, nor he loved her for she was a woman in upper-class. I can
10、 still recall the uneasy of him when he met Daisy with the help of Nike. True love cant be hidden, false love cant last. He loved Daisy, which has nothing to do with the American Dream.To the very end, we also come to the tragic ending of the novel. Gatsby took the responsibility without hesitation
11、and was shoot to death by Wilson. There is a paragraph in chapter 8. “He wouldnt possibly leave Daisy until he knew what she was going to do. He was clutching at some last hope and I couldnt bear to shake him free.” I was moved to tears as I read those lines. As he stood overnight and worried about
12、her, Tom was consulting with her how to shake off the punishment. Those wealthy people were spiritually disorientated and morally corrupted. Whats more, Daisy refused to participate in Gatsbys funeral; even she knew Gatsby was died for her. How cruel and relentless the reality is! Provided that he d
13、reamed of rising to a loftier place in the hierarchy, I think there is no need for him to sacrifice his life for it. Only love requires the most willingness of sacrifice.In sum, if Gatsby became extremely rich through his honest hard working, according with the schedule and the general resolves, or, alternatively, he was arrested for bootlegging or other criminal activities, then we can say it is a novel about American Dream. But now, this is another story, I call it Love Story, that is to say, Gatsbys dream was a dream of love.
