Arrangement of the book From chapter 1 to chapter 7, the author tells us the nature of the language, change of language and the center scope of the linguistics, such a
10、s the phonetics, phonology and so on. Then, he introduces several branches of linguistics, and this conforms to our cognitive law. This new edition adds chapter 12 Language and Brain. “Psycholinguistics is the study of language and mind: the mental structures and processes which are involved in the

12、 view, chapter 10 and 11 can follow chapter 12. In addition, chapter 8 and Chapter 9 have the same topic style with chapter 12. 4However, generally speaking, it is a practical and useful book. At the end of each chapter comes the topic-related exercises, which can help students master the knowledge.

It lessens to some extent students mind burden and pressure, at least avoids leaners strong dislike to this course at the beginning. Well begin is half done. The book is to be praised for what

In a word, every book has its own characteristics, application and meaningful existence.
