1、1、校园生活篇Topic 1Volunteer Your TimeFaced with the question whether it is worthwhile to spend a year or two volunteering in western China, many college students would probably shake their heads, seeing it as a waste of valuable learning time. However, I will give an affirmative answer without hesitatio

Different from temporary part-time jobs, a longer volunteer work experience is truly fulfilling and rewarding. As English majors, we can learn

From this experience, we will better understand our schoolwork and even build up considerable expertise in our chosen fields.Second, we can gain a great sense of satisfaction by making contributions in an underdeveloped region. Right now, the western China is suffering from both the shor

If we can step into the needed roles by simply sacrificing a year or two, we will be able to make some difference to the situation as a whole. Imagine how proud you will be when telling your family and friends how you have taught th

Compared with the great sense of pride you feel, a years time is just a small price to pay.Third,we can establish a deep friendship with local people. On the one hand, if you truly love and help the people you work

7、with, they naturally love and help you back. Take a senior I know for example, who served two months as a teacher in a dry northwestern town. During the period of water shortage, both his students and their parents voluntarily kept water for him, sometimes despite their own need. Recalling his days

While we are giving care, support and help, we often get back more including a lasting friendship. Therefore,I will readily sign up to volunteer in the western China despite vari

Think of the differences we can make there and the changes this experience can make to us, why not walk out of the ivory tower and step onto the promising land of our country?Topic 2Should Network Games Be Banned in College? It is a prevailing practice that university stud

Some teachers and parents hold the negative opinion that many students are so obsessed with network games that they play truant, and others even commit a crime for one reason or another. Others dont agree. As far as I am concerned ,the criti

After all, time is limited for college students and its the most fundamental duty for the

It is also reported that some students are so addictive to the network games that they even dont go to class and sit in front of the computers

13、 all day long.Their worries and considerations are justified, but we should not give up eating for choking. First, life in college is not easy. Students have to work hard to learn and at the same time they have much pressure from their parents or others. Playing network games will help them to relax

14、and be immersed in a virtual world. The rest of heart is important in the modern society. Second, students will learn more about teamwork in the network games. People in a team cooperate and help each other to win the game. The experience is vivid and works better than any lecture. Third, students m

It may endow the very student with the ability to establish a better personal relationship with other people, which means a lot when they enter the society. To sum up,for university students, the priority should

Appropriate rest and relaxation in the network games world will refresh a person and help him to learn something. The college students are all adult

So they must strike a balance between study and network games, and give due weight to the studies.Children should begin their formal schooling at an early age People have different vie

Others believe that it is still time for young children to play. Both views are based on respective ground. Those who argue for the playin

19、g time for children suggest that children at a very early age are still too young to focus their attention on learning. Their brain may not be ready for serious studies such as comprehension and memorizing learning materials. These people are partially right, for it is true that young children can h

20、ardly concentrate. Their attention on one thing lasts for no longer than 15 minutes or so. But we can arrange classes for shorter periods, cant we? And we can shift teaching subjects. Through putting them to study, young children are occupied with learning but not with playing. Those who argue for c

Chil

22、drens habit of studying and love for learning are of great importance to youngsters because these two things set up the sound foundation for their future studies. Having children start formal education at a very early age benefits young children much more than simply letting them play most of their

Similarly, the love for learning should take toots for before the love for playing is established.Should a person make an important decision al

People, who know you well, know what is best for you, and close to you can give you good advice, give you a different perspective, or share their own experience. When I had difficulty deciding

Without their advice, I might have chosen unsuitable courses. In collage, I had convinced myself that I was

The day of the audition, a friend of mine asked me why I was not auditioning. When I told her I did not feel I was good enough, she was shocked. She was able to provide me wi

I rethought my decision and tried out.and got a lead in the play.Last year when I was trying to decide whether or not I should study overseas, I talked to my friend. This was the best thing I could have done. This was a big decision for me because I h

She told me about the challenges and opportunities I might encounter and helped me make the right decision. I went and it was amazing.Whenever I am faced with an important decision, I se

There are many way to advertise and ads come in different forms. Newspapers and billboards carry advertisements; so

A most irritating thing is to watch advertisements before and during films on TV. Th

The ironical thing is that advertisements of one type of things are often shown one after another so that you are confused as to which product you should choose. Whats more, advertising is not always truthful. The adve

Thus the consumers fall victim to such advertising.Although there are disadvantages of ads, we can not forget the advantages and the conveniences they bring to us. First, by telling us where something

Secondly, a wide range of activities and institutions receive financial support through advertising. Without this support we would have to pay much more for newspapers and sports gam

So in most cases the photography is truly artistic, the slogans are genuinely witty, and the situations are decidedly funny.Generally speaking, advertisements have become one o

Let us make our life easier by learning to choose proper ads, and be the master of advertisements, not their salve.Providing physical exercises should not be the schools responsibility? While physical exercise is important, I do not believe that

36、it is the schools responsibility to provide physical training for its students. That is something that everyone can take care of on his or her own. Many students get plenty of physical exercise as part of their daily life or recreation. A student who bicycles ten miles to and from school does not nee

If a school offers such activities, it also suggests that students will be graded on them. The range of p

38、ossible physical activities is great: football, swimming, weight lifting, ballet, ballroom dance, yoga, skiing, horseback riding, and golf are just a few. However, the number of activities that a school could offer is small. Some students could get bad grades in physical education simply because the

39、 school could not provide an activity they enjoy or do well. This seems unfair. Research suggests that participation, not excellence, in these activities determines the physical benefits the body will get. Another issue is economic. Many schools do not have the money to provide gry facilities, playi

40、ng fields, and athletic equipment for their student. Other schools are located in cities where the kind of space just is not available. A few schools would rather keep money for academic purposes. Schools can certainly encourage physical activity. They can provide space for activities, events, and c

However, I think that providing exercise should not be the schools responsibility.Old People Should Not be Forced by Law to RetireThere has long been a debate about whether old p

People in favor of this say that old people, having worked for over thirty years, should not go on working, because physically they are not as strong, healthy and energetic as they used to be, a

43、nd mentally they are not able to endure the same pressure of having to work to earn a living as young people are. Personally, I do not agree with this point of view for the following reasons:First, it seems to me that no one should be forced to change his/her lifestyle unless he/she has committed a

Just as young people can choose to stop working and enjoy their leisure time as long as they can make ends meet, old people should also be allowed to continue working, provided that they are still

45、 qualified for their jobs.Second, there are many jobs that are especially suitable for old people, such as jobs that call for more experience and wisdom than physical power. With their rich experience in both work and life, many old people would make good consultants, instructors, coaches, doctors a

46、nd psychologists, to mention only a few.Last but not least, some old people do not go on working simply for economic reasons. It seems to them that there is more to work than just making money. They simply enjoy working as an indispensable 不可缺少的 part of their lives. Some of them even develop various

47、 mental and physical problems after retiring from work, and it seems that the best way to keep them in good healthe and high spirits is to allow them to keep working. All in all 总而言之, I believe that not only should old peoples physical conditions be taken into consideration but also their psychologic

Therefore, letting them do whatever they are fond and capable of doing will make them much happier than forcing them to stay isolated from society and endure loneliness in their twilight 黄昏的 years. What Is the Most Appealing Feature of a Job?What is the most appealing 吸引

49、人的 feature of a job? Some people claim that it is a high salary that makes a job appealing. Others believe that job satisfaction or being useful to society is more important. In my opinion, although a high wage is by no means 决不 unimportant, job satisfaction has priority. For a start, compared with sheer money, the satisfaction and pleasure one derives from 得自, 由来 his or her work are much more fulfilling and long lasting. Almost every kind of job can provide people with money to sustain 维持 their daily lives, that is, to meet their physical needs. However, only a few
