To arouse readers interests, editors use various rhetorical devices to make it more attractive, which poses great challenges for translator as for news hea

2、dline translation. 3、pts acquired by a group of people, and it is learned and transmitted from generation to generation. Language is a system of symbols which enables people to communicate and also carries the culture shared by that language community. Translation is the process of conversion between two languages, and

4、it is inevitably restricted by the culture embodied in both the source language 2and the target language. As an important part of mass media, news reports involve almost all part of the social life and reflect the latest development of the social culture, and moreover the readers vary greatly, so ri

5、ch cultural elements can be found between the lines of news. Thus, it is required that the news translators must have the intercultural awareness in the process of translating.Intercultural awareness is mainly the awareness of the cultural differences, so improving the sensitivity to the cultural di

6、fferences is the premise of translation in intercultural communication. Therefore, when dealing with the translation of English news reports, the translator should not only be familiar with the linguistic features of both the source and the target languages, but also be aware of the cultural connota

7、tions implied in the words and phrases so that proper ways of translation can be adopted to tackle the disparity of information brought by culture. The author lists the cultural elements in English news reports which are penetrated in thinking patterns, customs, idioms, personages, history and some

8、jargons, and then translates these news reports in a proper way for the reference of translators in English news translation. In the process of the conversion between the two kinds of 3languages aiming at getting readers through the original spirit, we must rely on many factors, not only the literal

9、 meaning of words, but also the environment and context. From the cross-cultural communication perspective, we can take language translation as a tunnel of cultural translation. Cross-cultural knowledge in the process of translation plays an important role. A translator has to be a man with a real s

10、ense of culture, and proficient in cross-cultural communication. Only in this way can he not only find the Chinese equivalent in linguistic sense, but also of real cultural significance. In my view, language is a mirror, in front of which culture is reflected. As a student majoring in English as a f

11、oreign language, Id like to take this advantage to elaborate on the role of intercultural c ommunication factors on translation practice and communication. These factors are cultural environmental culture, tradition, history and religion in translation learning. Factors in the above four areas will

12、be discussed. Environmental Culture refers to the specific culture formed by the joint influence of its located territory, natural environment, and geographical. It is reflected in the fact that a substance, a concept or a phenomenon is expressed 4differently in different nations. Cross-cultural com

13、munication studies showed that a particular environment nurtures a particular mindset in the growth of a particular group of people. Most anthropologists, sociologists believe that a countrys geographical conditions plays an important role to varying degrees. The Yellow River basin is the birthplace

14、 of he Chinese people develop the agricultural-based economy and get well accustomed to this life style. In he Chinese idiom “重本轻末” ,reflected its deep-rooted tradition. “本” refers to agriculture, the basic industry, while “末” refers to Commerce, the least important one. And at the same time, differ

15、ent and rigid status developed between ruler and subject, father and son, husband and wife etc. so that restrict the value, etiquette, norms and unique way of thinking came into being. Occidental culture originated from Greek myth. Greece is an island nation where commercial economy is first develop

16、ed among the maritime countries. With merchants living in the city, it correspondingly developed the social organization which was just the opposite of the family-style one. They first established a more democratic social contract society, because 5of their activities at sea, they fostered an orient

17、ation that is extremingly curious, active and changeable, characteristic of marine culture. All this eventually formed their social norms and value guiding themselves. In the minds of the Chinese people, “Dongfeng“ (east wind) symbolize “spring”, and “warm”, which heals everything and brings recover

18、y, and therefore, the Chinese have a special preference for Dongfeng. But in Britain, “east wind“ is blowing from the northern part of the European continent, and gives the chilly and unpleasant feeling. On the contrary, west wind is a sign of spring. Arabs live in the vast areas of West Asia, North

19、 Africa. The life-long desert living condition forged their unique culture of the desert. They depend on sheep to make a living. Albanian language abounds with words concerning living in the desert, especially sheep and camels. Statistics, the Albanian language in camel-related matters reached a tot

20、al of 5644. So far a great deal of translation work has tended to focus on the training of individuals in news translation community, making a major contribution to the globalization of all respects. All in all, a good translator needs special, highly developed skills. He must be able to translate a

21、 message so that others hear it as 6though it were his own language. This means that the translator must be skilled in more than vocabulary and grammar.
