1、Escape from Environmental PredicamentAdmittedly, the past decades have seen dramatic economic growth and China has now taken on a brand-new look as the 2nd largest economy in the world, making a sharp contrast to the old poverty and backwardness. However, to our alarm, along with the incredible GDP

2、comes acute environment pollution revealed by PM.2.5, scarcity of clean water and increasing incidence of cancer. Unlike other vigorous economies like the US and Japan, China experienced a distinctive path to prosperity which resulted in the loss of well-composed ecological environment. Firstly, Chi

3、nas over-dependence on manufacturing, which could be deduced from the label of “World Factory”, should be to blame. In face of the irresistible mechanization, Chinese cheap labor would lose its competitive edge sooner or later. What counts is innovation. Living at the bottom of food chain is in no p

4、osition to secure survival in fierce competition. We are under unceasing threat to be expelled since the deciding voice is not in the possession of us. The scenario is similar to what tenants have to experience. They seem to lead a no less placid life than everyone else until their landlord finds a

5、more promising substitute, either a more generous tenant or even a buyer, and drives you away. Wise enough, Chinese people have proved their enthusiasm in purchasing housing. But if no improvement were to be seen in innovation, these luxurious properties would never be down-to-earth in price because

6、 of the stagnant national economy. But innovation is easier to talk than exercise. The echoes to innovate, from authority, pose remarkable pressure on researchers whose work might prove a success due to spontaneous inspiration, or lead to absolute nothing after going through unpredictable process. 7、hat Mo Yan said in his address at the awarding ceremony for Nobel Prize for Literature-“The least utilitarian things usually serve the greatest purpose.” should remind us that pragmatism does not facilitate innovation, only quality education does. Government also has its share in the current environ

8、ment condition. It cannot be denied that economic strength is the predominant factor in a countrys international status. So to grow in fastest manner and on largest scale makes the golden creed governing all human activities in China over the past decades. Shanxi province, for example, boasts overwh

9、elmingly abundant coal reserve which accounts for 70% in the total GDP and unquestionably become the pillar industry. But the other side of the coin is destruction of plantation, soil erosion and deteriorating underground water, handing over to next generations a catastrophic habitat. In recent year

10、s, government began to face up to the formidable truth and take according measures. Its no surprise that tremendous price must be paid for the harm done to environment in less than a decade. The universal philosophy of “protect after pollute” is not in accordance with reality, because irreversible d

11、amage has been caused like the loss of some rare species. The only remedy for the environmental predicament lies in putting the brake on unrestrained appetite for development. Voice that our country is supposed to slow down its aspiring pace has been heard for a while. An elaborate and strict system

12、 in charge of every single link ranging from approval to supervision of projects launched by all kinds of organizations should be established, not for economic interests, but for the benefit of people. Only on the land blessed with fresh air, clean water and healthy food shall citizens feel secured

13、and thus fulfill their talents and release their energy, which constitute the enduring and underlying force to propel a prosperous and sustainable economy. We walk the earth not for the sake of fame and fortune, but health and happiness. Fallacy has it that the latter would invariably chase after th

14、e former, which is effortlessly reversed by the fact that lethal illness such as cancer ruthlessly claims peoples lives, rich or poor, noble or humble, young or old. According to a survey released at the beginning of this year, in every 6 minutes there is one person diagnosed with cancer throughout

15、China; the number of new cancer patients every day amounts to 8550 with 1 in 7 or 8 dying as a result. The best therapy for cancer is still confined to prevention for all the scientific and technological advance. Considering the atmosphere we are exposed to, food we are fed with, nothing weighs more than a steadfast change, not only for government but for every one of us.
